Ongoing adult learning is core to Temple Beth El’s mission. We provide multiple opportunities for people to engage either in general learning or on a specific topic. These include:
Pirkei Avot (Ethics of the Fathers) – We study this oft quoted text at Mincha on Shabbat afternoons between Passover and Shavuot.
The 5 Things People Want to Know About Judaism – A monthly class taught by the Rabbi on a different theme each year.
Hebrew Reading and Literacy – Our own Phil Yacht teaches 2 Hebrew classes each week, one to learn to read Hebrew, the other to become more comfortable following the service and leading the prayers.
Parsha and Pizza – Another monthly series that features study of the Torah portion. Sessions rotate among the synagogues of the 5 Towns with a different Rabbi teaching each one.
Annual Scholar-in-Residence Weekend – Each year we invite a noted scholar to spend a Shabbat with us offering study sessions on Friday night over dinner, Shabbat morning during the service and again after Kiddush.
Film and Speaker Series – Throughout the year we offer a series of speakers and films on Israel and other contemporary topics. Some are offered as part of a Sunday morning breakfast, others on a Sunday or weekday evening.
